Because the Heat does not possess full Bird rights for Whiteside, it can not surpass the salary cap to keep him at a competitive salary.

The Dallas Mavericks expect to be granted a meeting in the opening hours of free agency with Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside, one of the Mavericks’ two primary targets this summer, sources told ESPN.com. Dallas is aiming to boost its roster by adding Conley and Whiteside this offseason.

The Mavericks are determined to bolster their lineup with National Basketball Association free agents acquisitions this summer, knowing that superstar forward Dirk Nowitzki could retire soon.

According to ESPN.com’s Tim MacMahon and the Star-Telegram’s Dwain Price, Dallas Mavericks’ forward Chandler Parsons has chose to opt out of the final year of his three-year, $46 million contract. Mavs president Donnie Nelson said the forward’s injury status will factor into the team’s decision to consider a reunion. The arthroscopic operation Parsons underwent this spring to address a torn meniscus in the knee wasn’t almost as serious as the previous surgery. He put up 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and four assists per game for the Rockets in 2013-14, earning a three-year $46.1 million deal with the Mavericks. A minutes restriction to start the year brought down his full-season averages to 13.7 points and 4.7 boards per night.

Owner Mark Cuban attempted to convince Parsons to opt in for the final year of his previous restricted free agent deal, but the 27-year-old didn’t have any interest in playing on that contract any longer under the circumstances, MacMahon reports.

If the Mavericks do indeed get a meeting with Whiteside as soon as free agency begins, then there stands a strong chance that they will indeed be able to land the free agent center.

“Parsons will be pursued by the Orlando Magic, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Los Angeles Lakers, the source says, once free agency opens up on July 1st”. He hit 37 percent over three seasons in Houston, climbed to 38 in 2014-15 and shot a career-high 41.4 percent past year.
