Oh dear! Autopsies have been completed on late Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and his two friends following their tragic September 25 boating accident, but it could be some time before we learn what killed the Major League Baseball star.

Marlins and Mets players also shook hands and embraced beforehand, while a lone trumpeter played “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” as a video tribute was displayed on the scoreboard.

After Monday’s game, Marlins players saluted their teammate on the pitcher’s mound.

The Marlins defeated the Mets 7-3.

At 20, he broke into the major leagues and was National League Rookie of the Year in 2013.

Fernandez died, aged 24 on Sunday in a boating accident.

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes looks on from the dugout next to a Mets jersey honouring late Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez. Fans can donate by sending checks to the Miami Foundation at 40 NW Third St. #305, Miami, FL 33128 or online. The entire team wore it in Monday’s game against the Mets.

Dora Amador is a season ticket holder in the “Jose’s Heroes” section of the stadium. They said they have never pulled over Fernandez’s boat in the past.

“I didn’t think a team could be tighter than we were before this”, Stanton said. “We didn’t expect that”, said Gordon. We won for you. “Rest in Peace Jose”. In his first game back from injury, Fernandez hit a home run and struck out six batters in an impressive six innings of work.

Whatever Gordon was thinking rounding the bases, there was no place to hide his emotions, which were right there on his face.

Veteran baseball reporter Ken Rosenthal tweeted about Fernandez on Monday.

After the ceremony honoring Fernandez, the Mets players and coaches lined up to offer their condolences to the Marlins. I already miss you and our daily conversations.

Miami has been a middling baseball city, but everyone loved Fernandez. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria announced the number would be retired.

“Jose is a member of this family for all time”, Samson said.

He was a Cuban refugee who once saved his drowning mother after she was thrown overboard from a boat as they were defecting to the United States in 2007 without realizing who he was saving.

On Capitol Hill, Florida’s USA senators, Democrat Bill Nelson and Republican Marco Rubio, introduced a resolution Tuesday honoring Fernandez for his journey from communist Cuba to Major League Baseball stardom and his contributions to the community.

But his story was about more than success on the field.

Even the Mets appreciated what Gordon’s homer meant. Miami-Dade police divers found two bodies under the boat, submerged in water washing over the jetty.

The Miami Marlins pitcher was reportedly upset after having an argument with his girlfriend – who is pregnant with their first child – so, he asked two friends to join him for an ill-fated boating joyride. A tribute to a person gone far too early. “He’d want it that way”.
