Cook looked like he was headed for a 71-yard touchdown run, but held up with an apparent left thigh cramp and was halted after 35 yards. Florida State now has 12 touchdowns this season and Cook has scored nine of them while rushing for 792 yards through five games. Miami fell below its lofty standard more than a decade ago and has yet to rebound as Florida State has in the last three seasons. If the Hurricanes are going to win this game they will need to limit Cook’s effectiveness.

Michael Badgley connected on a 30-yard field goal, and Justin Vogel had a solid night, averaging 41.3 yards on six punts. He caught seven passes for 139 yards, the final one an aerobatic one in the end zone that deserved to go down in a Hurricane lore for slaying Florida State for the first time in six tries.
“‘No, I’m going to kick, ‘” Aguayo recalled responding. Overall, Kaaya was 29 of 49 for 405 yards. Despite throwing a couple of the passes late, especially down the seams, Golson was able to show his inherent arm strength, which perhaps will lead to more of the same type of deep shots down the field in spots tonight against the Hurricanes. Everett Golson and the Seminoles will have their best performance of the season at home under the lights against the Hurricanes.
Golson completed 25 of 33 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown. Miami is coming off a 34-23 loss at Cincinnati on October 1.
The Hurricanes (3-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) almost made that play on Florida State’s ensuing drive. Turnovers typically play a big role in rivalry games where emotions are running high. An awesome 58-yard touchdown grab from Rashawn Scott would pull things to 17-10 and have the Hurricanes right back in this one.
It’s been highlighted in the past few seasons with Miami’s inability to win the big game, to find a way when it matters most.
Cook has been bothered by a left hamstring injury since the Seminoles’ win over Wake Forest last week, but he’s participated in practice the past two days and appears like he’ll be in action Saturday.

Florida State jumped out to a 20-10 halftime lead by scoring on its opening three drives for the first time this season. Howard Schnellenberger resurrected Miami’s program and won the school’s first national title, but Johnson created the image, aura and swashbuckling swagger that transformed the Hurricanes into the most dominant, dynastic, intensely intimidating college football program of the 1980s and ’90s. Miami is now 3-20 when trailing at the half under Golden. But Cook countered with his third touchdown, a 23-yarder around right end, to give the 12th-ranked Seminoles a 29-24 victory Saturday night. Miami is led by Brad Kaaya, who has thrown for 1,094 yards and five touchdowns while Joseph Yearby has 424 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The improvement on defense in the second half couldn’t make up for the team’s failings in the first two quarters.
