Miazga likely to join Chelsea

It is questionable whether Chelsea would feel comfortable allowing Cahill to leave this month, but reports from the United States suggest they are the club set to sign Miazga.

Miazga’s contract with the New York Red Bulls was set to expire after the upcoming 2016 season, so getting the rumored $5 Million transfer fee while it’s still a possibility is probably a good move for MLS and the club.

The defender is out of contract next year and the Red Bulls reluctance to sell now stems from the fear of losing him on a free transfer after his current deal runs out.

The 30-year-old is one of Chelsea’s most successful players having won five major trophies, including the Champions League, Europa League and Premier League, since joining from Bolton for £7million four years ago. Miazga possesses a Polish passport, which means he will not need a work permit to complete his move to Chelsea.

Miazga, 20, was with the U.S. National Team in Carson, Calif., for January training camp, but reportedly left for England to take a medical exam. He made his senior U.S. debut during a World Cup qualifier in November after playing at the U-20 World Cup in the spring and U-23 Olympic qualifying in autumn.

But the Blues have also been tracking Miazga – who stands 6ft 4in – for a number of months.

FC’s Jeff Carlisle reviews the clubs in the Premier League and Bundesliga that have shown an interest in USA young male player of the year, Matt Miazga. An injury to Ronald Zubar in the first game of the season vaulted Miazga into the lineup, and he quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the league.
