The sack total marked a single-game best for Bennett, who is now tied for the National Football League lead with 6.5 sacks on the season.

If there is a concern at this point for Seattle, it might be the amount Bennett is playing. “I think sometimes people look over him because we have so many big names on defense”.

Michael Bennett has been named NFC defensive player of the week. “I’m not going to change who I am because he’s so insane”, Avril said.

Also back, he thinks, is the mentality that got the team to the Super Bowl the last two years. In those situations, Bennett lines up as the defensive tackle with Avril on the end. It’s one of those things you get awarded for somebody noticing you.

Lynch has been slowed by injury this season and even missed two games (Weeks 4 and 5) due to a hamstring injury.

On one of the sacks, Bennett lined up nearly directly in front of right tackle Erik Pears, with Avril lined up outside of Bennett. As the 49ers’ linemen moved left at the snap, Bennett and Avril were each left nearly unblocked. “Kind of makes the guards become tackles”.

“I think the way he lines up kind of helps me out as far as how wide he is, ” said Avril, who has 3½ sacks this season. “He did run a little bit yesterday, been running a little bit today”.
