Michael Carrick will stay at Manchester United and sign a new contract with the club, according to A-League side Perth Glory.
Perth approached Carrick over a possible move as the 34-year-old has a close relationship with their captain and former West Ham team-mate Richard Garcia, who was the best man at his wedding, but Filopoulos conceded the deal won’t be happening.
The 34-year-old had an uncertain future under manager Louis van Gaal as the two did not talk about signing an extension, knowing the Englishman’s contract was set to expire next month.
He made 42 appearances in all competitions for United last season and will be adding some more under Jose Mourinho next season.
“We understand he’s now secured an extension with Manchester United so that’s off the table”. And I’m delighted he has signed another contract: Michael Carrick.
‘It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia’s relationship with Michael, ‘ Perth chief executive Peter Filopoulos told FourFourTwo.
Last week, former United player Paddy Crerand appeared to reveal that an agreement was in place between Carrick and the club while speaking on MUTV.
Michael Carrick has been with Manchester United for 10 years.

Youth stars Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson both extended their contracts after very successful debuts with the first team, and the experience of a player in the mould of Carrick could prove vital in any challenge United mounts in the Premier League and Europa League next season. “He’s signed a contract for another year hasn’t he?”
