It was reported today from multiple sources that popular actor/singer/songwriter Bret McKenzie will join author Michael Chabon in the upcoming production from Walt Disney Studios.
According to past reports, in BOB THE MUSICAL, after being struck in the head a mild-mannered man wakes up to find his worst nightmare has come true – his life having become a musical, allowing him to hear the “inner song” of people’s hearts.
McKenzie, who won a Best Oscar for the song “Man or Muppet” from “The Muppets Movie”, is on board to write tunes for “Bob the Musical“.
Tom Cruise is circling the lead, a regular guy who, after a blow to the head, suddenly can hear the inner songs of everyone’s heart as his reality is instantly turned into a musical, much to his dismay.
Chris Bender, JC Spink, Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Jennifer Gibgot are procuring the film, which Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) will direct.
Chabon’s past film work includes SPIDER-MAN 2, JOHN CARTER, and the upcoming 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA and MAGIC KINGDOM. Mike Benter, John August and Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel are among the writers who have worked on the script in the past.
