A former chartered accountant who served as Home Office minister responsible for preventing abuse and crime, Ms Bradley is unlikely to bring the same ideological zeal to the Culture Secretary post as her predecessor John Whittingdale.

Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley has been named the new United Kingdom culture secretary.

Whittingdale, joins other big wigs such as George Osborne, Michael Gove, Nicky Morgan, who have all left their respective jobs in government.

Nicky Morgan has been sacked as education secretary as the new prime minister Theresa May has carved up the Cabinet.

Former shadow education secretary Lucy Powell said the departure of the two secretaries of state to have overseen schools during the Cameron years would be welcomed by teachers.

He met with Her Majesty the Queen to formally resign, and within ten minutes Theresa May was officially appointed the new Prime Minister.

The appointment of Mr Johnson as Foreign Secretary shocked Westminster and the wider world.

The 59-year-old said she would reach out to those affected by social injustice and poverty after years of austerity. She rewarded Johnson with the plum job of foreign secretary.

Gove – a prominent “Leave” campaigner in the European Union referendum – ran against May in the leadership contest but failed to get past the second round, coming third in a vote by Conservative party MPs.

First in on Thursday morning was Liz Truss, who was moved from her job as environment secretary to become the new Justice Secretary.

The work began nearly immediately with the appointment of her new cabinet.

An outside chance of getting a role, Mr Gyimah is not a hugely high-profile figure at the moment but he has been vocal in his support of the new PM.
