Charlotte Hornets small forward, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, was injured early in tonight’s preseason game against the Orlando Magic. It could very well boil down to whether or not Kidd-Gilchrist needs surgery to fix the shoulder (which Love did). Kidd-Gilchrist was mentioned as a possible Defensive Player of the Year candidate last season.
Rookie 7-footer Frank Kaminsky didn’t enter the game for the first time until 9:58 remained.
Kidd-Gilchrist has seen his time on the court dwindle over the first three seasons of his career.
Midseason form: Offseason acquisition Nicolas Batum, who Charlotte hopes can be a third scoring option, was active with 14 points and six rebounds. They ended up 12 of 31 from long range, led by Williams’ 3-of-6 showing.
The Hornets managed to go win their opening bout 106-100, behind strong performances from new recuits Jeremy Lin (17 points, 7 assisnts), Jeremy Lamb (16 points) and Nicholas Batum (14 points).
Up next: Charlotte is at Miami on Sunday night.
“We’re going to actually get over there and watch a few film with him today”, Hoiberg said.

Never one to romance the past or get overly sentimental about much of anything, Scott Skiles repeatedly declined invitations from the Orlando Magic through the years to honor his NBA-record 30-assist night from 25 years ago. Teammate C.J. Watson quickly committed a foul so Marble could retrieve the shoe.
