“Beating Michael Phelps is like not like beating someone else”. At this rate, the sequel series just might go down with the same critical acclaim that the original program drew for the better part of a decade.
Phelps churned through the water on the return lap, far ahead of everyone, and touched in a dazzling 50.45 seconds.
His 100m fly timing eclipsed the 50.56 time that le Clos posted in winning the same event at the Fina World Championships a few eight hours earlier in Kazan, Russia.
Florent Manaudou of France won the 50 free to go with his Olympic title.
“I was more ticked off when I saw I was under record pace at the 150, ” Phelps said.

The long-distance back-and-forth with Le Clos – not mentioned by name by Phelps – should spice up the action in the Rio pool. I don’t do it to talk trash. I do it to state facts.
“I’ve got to put my body in the best physical shape I can possibly get it in. I’m back to actually doing work like I used to and it pays off”, Phelps said.
