Rival South African swimmer Chad le Clos clearly irked the the 19-time Olympic gold medalist with his pre-race antics.
Commentator’s couldn’t help but laugh, comparing his angry twitches to those of “a growling dog”.
Once again, the gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly belongs to Phelps. “If that’s his, that’s his”. For those unfamiliar with the back story, le Clos beat Phelps in the same event during the 2012 Olympics in London. Instead, Le Clos tried to get into his competition’s head, something Phelps was ready for long before they jumped into the water.
The final will take place on Wednesday, August 10.
Phelps had every reason to give the deadly stare to le Clos.
With tears streaming down his face, Bert blurted out “Unbelievable” several times, and one of his most memorable lines was “Just look at him, he’s such a handsome boy!”.
“He does his thing; I do mine”, he told NBC. A cloud only crosses his face when Le Clos is in the vicinity. I was watching the heat in front of me.
“Michael Phelps has been talking about how slow the butterfly events have been recently”, le Clos said. “He does his thing, I do my thing”, Phelpssaid.
