Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky deliver more gold

The next-highest all-time medal record goes to USSR gymnast Larisa Latynina who won 9 gold and 18 overall medals in the 1950s and ’60s.

Four years on since losing his 200-meter Olympic butterfly title, Phelps taught his rival Chad le Clos a brutal lesson.

The 27-year-old led from start to finish to win the gruelling multi-stroke event in a time of two minutes 06.58 seconds, just 0.46 outside the world record she set at last year’s world championships in Russian Federation.

The 31-year-old Phelps moved on to the evening semifinals, carrying on his bid to become a four-time champion in an event he first won at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The U.S. trailed through the first three legs of the race, as Sweden, China and then Australia swapped the top spot.

“Nothing. I’ve been getting on that Snapchat game”. If she stays in the pool as long as Phelps, she could cement her legacy as an all-time great too. Le Clos was in the final again, thoroughly inspired himself by his mother and father, both battling cancer and in the stands cheering him on.

At least half the reporters bolted away from Franklin while she was in mid-answer Monday, all of them eager to fire a few questions at Ledecky.

Katie Ledecky won her fourth Olympic medal of the Rio Games on Wednesday night, a gold medal alongside Allison Schmitt, Leah Smith and Maya DiRado in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

It was Britain’s first medal in this event since they won a bronze in 1984, and made up for Guy’s disappointment in failing to pick up a medal in the 200m and 400m freestyle.

Ledecky touched in 1min 53.73sec and is two-thirds of the way to a rare treble. Bronte is the reigning world champion, but Cate is the world-record holder.

As United States Olympian Katie Ledecky continues to set world records and etch her name in the swimming history books, she doesn’t forget to say a prayer before every race. “It’s the closest I’ve come to throwing up at the end of a race”, – Ledecky’s latest triumph did not come easily. “I knew I just needed to get my hand on the wall and be done”. The teenager is also the youngest Olympic gold medalist in that event since 17-year-old Jorg Woithe of East Germany at the 1980 Moscow Games.

Yosuhiro Koseki of Japan went out fast and was more than a second under world-record pace at the final turn.

“It’s the best thing I can do for my country.”Until now, Balandin’s biggest achievement was winning three breaststroke gold medals at the 2014 Asian Games”.

“The 200 is such a more stressful event for me than the 400 or the 800, just because I can’t really settle into my rhythm”, Ledecky said.

In the final leg of the relay, Ledecky came from behind to beat Australia as the US won in 7:43.03.
