Michael Phelps Officially Retires Afer 2016 Olympics: ‘This Time I Mean It’

Michael Phelps made his first Olympics in 2000, but he did not medal in his lone event, the 200-meter butterfly.

Brazil spent more than $10 billion preparing for the Olympics and the Rio Games are now in the final week, so many Brazilians are asking, “Where are the medals?”

“No matter what country you swim for you’re indebted to Michael Phelps”, said Murphy after winning his third Rio gold. I changed a diaper last night.

Phelps has been described by Bob Bowman, his swimming coach since the tender age of 11, as “a man incredibly invested in the success of the people he cares about”, who is “unbelievably kind-hearted”. And I was thinking: “my last warm-up, my last warm-down, my last time putting on a suit, my last cold tub – I did all that”. “Being able to cap it off with these Games is just the ideal way to finish”.

It could have all ended four years ago, in a little less cool fashion, for the Baltimore Bullet. All five were instrumental in the team claiming the Olympic crown. If she pulls it off, she’ll be the first American gymnast to win four gold medals in one Olympics since 1904, when Anton Heida won five. He plans to marry Johnson after the Olympics and said he wants to watch his son grow, maybe even dole out a swimming lesson or two. I’ve lived a dream come true. “I already have the race picked out”.

“This is how I wanted to finish my career”.

Some sailing races were canceled and the boats raced to get back to shore safely. “I hope our investment will continue so we can catch up to the top powers”.

For a swimmer who said he was done with the sport after the 2012 London Olympics, American Michael Phelps put on a performance at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics that left most at a loss for words. What will hopefully endure is how this fantastic athlete became a better person in what appears to be the twilight of his career. “I don’t want to miss anything”.

On the other hand, I have been on exactly one ski trip in my life and that was more than enough. In London in 2012, he surpassed the previous record holder of the modern games, Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who won 18 medals, including 9 golds, from 1956-1964.

“It’s incredible. Really. I have been dreaming of this particular moment since I was a young child and it’s awesome”, the 21-year-old said.

The incident happened overnight Saturday as Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen were taking a taxi from the French Olympic team’s hospitality house back to the Olympic Village, when they were pulled over by men posing as police. I’m happy to be bringing home some medals and memories!

“You could say (Rio) was special, because I’m able to start the next chapter of my life”. I’m retired. I’m done. “This is just the start of something new”.
