Michael Phelps’s Game Face Is Now Tattooed On A Fan’s Arm

But, the 5-time Olympian has also been dominating the conversation out of the pool as well, courtesy of his own “death stare”.

When television cameras caught Michael Phelps with a serious game face before the semifinal swim, staring in the direction of South African Chad le Clos, the image went viral and turned into memes poking fun at the intensity in Phelps’ facial expression.

The #PhelpsFace meme made its way around the internet the past few days, and on Saturday it apparently made its way onto someone’s leg.

A Toronto tattoo parlour has now committed the famous Phelps face to ink.

Phelps won his 22nd gold medal Thursday, and will compete in the 100-meter butterfly race Friday night. It’s attractive. ESPN managed to get some quotes directly from the tattoo’s owner, Ricky Fung, regarding this absolute work of art, and why he had to have it (which should go without saying).

This NFL fan chose to get a tattoo on his leg of his favorite player’s face and his number – well, police mug shot number, anyway. “The photo obviously became satirized but for him it’s more representational of perseverance and focus”.

“I admire people who aspire to be great”, he added.
