Phelps was once again one of the biggest stories of the Summer Games, boosting his career medal total to a record 28, including 23 golds.
“There’s Michael Phelps – good morning”. And when the reporter on the scene tried to push him to answer at least one question, Phelps got pretty upset with him.
Silence ensues as Phelps marches on.
“Feel good? What’s the first thing you’re going to do?” the local reporter pressed. If you could give me that space while I’m trying to get my family home and safe I would appreciate that’.
“I’m not answering any questions, guys”, he told them.
At this point the athlete stops dead, keen to make his point.
“But I am trying to get my family home safe, and that’s what matters the most”.
“I appreciate you guys coming”, he says.
Back in the studio, the stunned anchor says: “Well, some people might say that wasn’t very nice”. Then the swimming superstar thanked the reporters for their understanding before walking away.
