Phelps clocked one minute, 54.66 seconds to grab the 200m individual medley Olympic title. Japan’s Kosuke Hagino rallied in the last lap for the silver, touching almost two seconds back.
The same goes for Michael Phelps, who clinched a spot in the men’s 100-meter butterfly semifinals with a fine showing in the heats. During the medal ceremony that followed, Phelps showed more of the emotion that we saw from him after he won his 25th medal, two days ago.
Daniel Wallace was only 11 years old when Michael Phelps won his first gold at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens. The only goal he didn’t accomplish was breaking the world record, set in 2011 by Lochte.
The most decorated Olympian of all time was back in the pool later on Thursday in the 100m butterfly semi-finals. At the 2012 Olympics, he finished fifth in the 50m freestyle in London.

“Ryan Lochte, going for his 13th career medal, saving the best for last”, Friedman shouted in excitement. While American fans were cheering Phelps or Lochte, the host Brazilian fans were roaring for one of their own, in Thiago Pereira.
RIO DE JANEIRO – Michael Phelps swept to a 22nd Olympic gold Thursday, while China’s Chen Xinyi failed a doping test to cast a shadow over the Rio swimming competition. “It’s been a hell of a career”, Phelps told reporters, while acknowledging the strain on his 31-year-old body. Watch him destroy the event in the video above.
“I am really looking forward to it, I can’t wait”, Bronte said.
Phelps is finally retiring after these games, where he has already won his 20th and 21st gold medals.

The Americans missed out by one kick Wednesday after New England Patriots player Nate Ebner scored on Fiji with just a minute to go. “Every chance I get on those blocks and he’s right there, it’s fantastic”, Lochte said of Phelps, who was in the adjacent lane.
