Michael Phelps: Why I’m really ‘done’ this time
Rio de Janeiro, Aug 15 (IANS) Swimmer Michael Phelps has said that his success at the Rio Olympics ensured he could retire without any regrets, even as he ruled out a return to competition.

The last time Phelps lost this race internationally was at the 2005 world Championships in Montreal 11-years-ago where he got beat by American teammate Ian Crocker.
Van Niekerk finished 0.15 seconds faster than Johnson ran in 1999, setting a mark considered one of the nearly untouchable records in track.
Campbell returned around 20 minutes later for the 4×100 medley relay but despite a fine anchor leg could not prevent the United States retaining their Olympic title.
Now, he’s the fastest – ever. Moments later, he put the multi-colored South African flag around his shoulders and took off his spikes.
As for his medals, he said “they get bigger every time” and that they definitely are a little heavy. From lane eight, a world record. “I wanted to challenge myself and see how much more I could do”. That was a massacre from Wayde van Niekerk.
Gymnast Simone Biles already has three gold medals and is expected to add to her collection when she competes in the women’s balance beam finals Monday. It was the third straight close call for the favorites, who are looking as beatable as ever under coach Mike Krzyzewski. Knox’s goal ended the scoring and came with 1:02 left in the Aussies’ 10-3 rout of Brazil. Allen, also a player for the Oregon Ducks football team, will make his Olympic debut on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at the opening heats of the 110-meter hurdles in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Being able to cap it off with these Games is just the flawless way to finish.
As Nathan Adrian touched the wall to finish off the victory, Phelps gathered the other relay swimmers, Ryan Murphy and Cody Miller, in his arms.
The 31-year-old American won five more Olympic titles in Rio, extending his record as the greatest Olympian of all time to 23 gold, three silver and two bronze medals, reports Xinhua. “The fact that it has never been done before shows it’s a very hard thing to do, and I’m very proud to have been the first one to have done it”, he said.
“I wouldn’t change anything”, he said. I knew this was the last race that I ever had, the last Olympics that I ever had. Seeded second, Kerber won the Australian Open in January and was the runner-up at Wimbledon last month.
After rowing for more than a mile, the gold medal came down to an inch. New Zealand’s Mahe Drysdale and Croatia’s Damir Martin crossed the finish line in the men’s single sculls side by side, not knowing which one of them was the new Olympic champion. A photo analysis showed Drysdale won by a thumb’s length. “No, they were just, they just took their wallets and basically that was it”.
How to Watch: Catch coverage of the events final beginning at 1 p.m. EDT live online (Biles is scheduled to compete at 2:45 p.m. EDT.), or watch the event during NBC4’s primetime coverage at 8 p.m. But the sport’s governing body banned her from the Olympics last week after receiving what it said was new information.
