“Before I would have my headphones on and never talk to anybody, that’s literally how I was”, Phelps said. “I want to do it”.

In the next few weeks, August 5-21, the city of Rio de Janeiro is going to host the 31st Olympic Games.
In addition to playing with a younger team, the USA arrived in Rio with some players recovering from injuries, including regular starter Megan Rapinoe, who was on the bench the entire match on Wednesday.
CARLI LLOYD and Alex Morgan scored as the USA women’s soccer team defeated New Zealand 2-0 at Belo Horizonte in its debut at the Rio games, getting off to a solid start in its attempt to win a fourth straight Olympic gold medal.
US swimmer Michael Phelps has won 22 medals (18 gold, two silver and two bronze) dating back to the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Phelps is scheduled to compete in the 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley, and the 100-meter butterfly in Rio. Opening ceremonies are on Friday. Gary Hall carried the flag at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
NBC has teamed up with Facebook and Instagram to provide even more Olympic content including recaps, short videos and Facebook Live interviews with NBC Olympics commentators and athletes.
The London Games were the first in which all 204 teams included women. “In London, I wanted to make history”, Phelps said.
He made Olympic history in 2008 when he won eight gold medals in Beijing. After taking a yearlong break, he rediscovered his love of training and competing, sparking a desire to close his career the right way.
Phelps and his fiancee, Nicole Johnson, welcomed a son, Boomer, in May. Brazil and Germany could meet in the semifinals at Maracana Stadium, a rematch of the World Cup semifinal from two years ago when the German senior team embarrassed Brazil at home.
“I think that’s why he came back”, Lochte said. Dozens of Russian athletes have been banned from the Olympics, including essentially the entire track-and-field team, after revelations through whistleblowers of a systematic, state-backed doping programme in the country.

During a news conference Wednesday, Phelps called Rio “my potential last Olympics”. “I’m not. But I’m just going to say that”.
