Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – 07/08/2016.
But it was swimming that ruled weekend one of the Rio Olympics.
Competing in an Olympic final is already a stressful endeavor. Phelps made his first 200 butterfly final at the age of 15 finishing fifth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Time to make room for Olympic gold No.19.
He won his first gold medal of 2016 and 19 overall as part of the men’s 400-meter freestyle relay. He also said he thought he could do well on Monday after a quick nap. “And I’m not a spaghetti fan but I forced myself to eat it”.
“I guess I probably got to sleep at 03:00 and I was on an 11:00 bus”.
Phelps, who produced a stunning second leg, has now won 23 medals in total, extending his record as the most decorated Olympian of all time. “I was so hyped and excited”.
His 1:55.73 was a second slower than the 1:54.73 of pace-setting Hungarian Tamas Kenderesi, whose compatriot Laszlo Cseh was second fastest and sensing an opportunity. The final time was 3:09.92.
Swimmers and gymnasts, particularly from Team USA, are among those seen sporting the mysterious dots, the source said. “I was planning on sleeping until about 10, but I woke up around 8:30 and just stayed up. So I am sure everyone else will be thinking about that the last 50 meters”. “So I feel pretty good now”.
“I told them before it’s okay to sing, it’s okay to cry”, Phelps, co-captain of the men’s team, told media.
Eight teams have qualified for Tuesday’s team final. “I swim for not only my country, my coach and my teammates but I swim for my family as well”. “That’s the fastest I’ve been in prelims in a while”. At first, you could understand.
She led right from the start and touched in 55.48, knocking off the mark of 55.64 she established at last year’s world championships.
“I don’t remember almost as much of 2012 as I thought I did”, she said.
“I just wanted to put it all on the line and have no regrets”. The fact that two could be on the podium illustrates that this could be one of the rarest events in Olympic history.
