Michael Porter Jr., the No. 4 player in the Class of 2017, has committed to play at Washington.

So, it would have loomed as a major surprise had Michael Porter Jr. not opted to latch on with the program, given the overwhelming familial ties he stands to have there. The elder Porter also has ample coaching experience, first as an AAU coach in IN and most recently as an assistant coach for the Missouri women’s basketball team.

Washington emerged as the clear favorite to land Porter after Lorenzo Romar hired his father, Michael Porter Sr., as an assistant coach in May.

It would appear the Huskies coaching staff, including Romar, are pleased with the development. Younger brother Jontay Romar, a 2018 recruit, also had pledged his allegiance to the Seattle-based program.

The 6-foot-9 forward is ranked as the second best player in the nation by 24/7 Sports, fourth by ESPN and fifth by Scout.

Last year, the Porters led Tolton Catholic High (Columbia, MO) to the Class 3 MSHSAA state championship.

Landing Porter Jr.is another huge recruiting coup for a Washington program that has attracted top talent in recent years. The Huskies secured incoming freshman Markelle Fultz, who is the centerpiece to a 2016 class and will also play with Porter on the Team USA team next week in Chile.

Porter’s pro prospects is already buzzing.
