George W. Bush has been enlisted to campaign for his brother in SC, where Jeb Bush is making eight campaign stops in the state over the next three days following a fourth-place finish in New Hampshire.
The Georgia Democrat told reporters at a news conference Thursday that he was involved in the sit-ins, the Freedom Rides, the March on Washington and the march from Selma to Montgomery. Hillary Clinton picked up the endorsement of Congressional Black Caucus political action committee as she and Bernie Sanders angle for minority voters ahead of the Nevada caucus and a slate of Southern primaries that will give minority voters their first say in the nominating contest.
Rubio was hammered by his rivals, especially New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, in last week’s debate for being repetitive and scripted.
“Donald Trump has zero foreign policy experience negotiating a hotel deal in another country is not foreign policy experience”, Rubio charged.
He says SC has been a “firewall” for the Bush family and notes that some of Rubio’s advisers have roots here. Rubio accused Cruz, another first-term senator, of hurting USA military might with his budget stances.
Michael Bloomberg sees an opportunity emerging in presidential politics after Hillary Clinton’s blowout defeat in New Hampshire and Donald Trump’s victory there. Polls from mid-January found Trump with comfortable double-digit leads.
Rick Tyler told CNN’s Erin Burnett that Trump says “nothing about immigration, nothing about job creation, nothing about what’s going on in North Korea, nothing about ISIS”.
Cruz will lean heavily on religious and tea party conservatives, a sizable faction of the SC primary electorate expected to top 700,000 voters, far outpacing Iowa and New Hampshire.
Trump and Cruz are battling for a victory in the SC primary on February 20 after splitting victories in the first two nominating states of Iowa and New Hampshire. Among this group, Trump won about 60 percent support.
