Michael Weatherly plays Dr.Phil-inspired character ‘Bull’

Not only will the show have a gaping hole with the absence of Tony DiNozzo’s (Michael Weatherly) insane antics, but the series will also be diving into new territory with nearly half of the team new. And it sounds like showrunner Mark Goffman was well aware of all the positives that nabbing Weatherly would bring his new show. “Bull” films in NY and the actor’s family – his doctor wife, Cedars Sinai internist Bojana Jankovic, and two young children, Olivia, 4, and Liam, going on 3, as well as his son August, 20 from his previous marriage to “The Young and Restless” star Amelia Heinle – are firmly entrenched in their lives in Los Angeles. It’s no secret that Weatherly is hoping to leave NCIS’ Tony DiNozzo firmly behind him with the launch of Bull.

On a personal note, the Los Angeles-based Weatherly – who films Bull in New York City – will soon be celebrating his seventh wedding anniversary with his doctor wife, Bojana Jakovic. If you’re going to have a say in picking who plays you on TV, you go for the gold.

“Bull” will air at 9 p.m., after “NCIS”, CBS’s top drama.

With or without the vampire side of Valderrama, his character is definitely expected to change things up in the squad. “Bull! Looking forward to Bull!'” Weatherly told ET. According to Dr. Phil, he thinks Michael Weatherly was the ideal pick to play the part. That’s a tough task considering that the jury consultant is modeled after someone who has had a well-established public persona ever since his consulting firm worked with Oprah Winfrey after she was sued by a group of Texas beef ranchers. Bull is a blustery know-it-all and I’m not eager to spend more time with him; yes, the name is fitting.

On his TV return, Michael Weatherly said that getting cast as the lead on “Bull” was unexpected. “Because if you’re exhausted, they hide lots of sins”. There’s also questionably legal surveillance involved, not that Bull would care, what with his “I get shit done” attitude.

Following his retirement from the 13-season TV series, he is set to return as a trial consultant in Bull, which is scheduled to premiere on September 21 on RTL CBS Entertainment HD simultaneously in the USA and Indonesia. “And that’s what Bull has already become for me – a fun experience that goes at the basics of human nature but in a way that I hope people find entertaining”.
