Later he announced he would not stand for another term as FIFA president in the new elections.

Blatter, 79, was preparing to speak to reporters about FIFA’s announcement that it will hold a presidential election on Feb. 26, when Simon Brodkin began throwing dollars at him.

Sepp Blatter, the outgoing president of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (Fifa), continues to thumb his nose at the critics.

“He will be charged for trespassing because he wasn’t allowed to enter the building”.

Potential candidates are already planning campaigns for the most high profile job in sports politics.

UEFA President Michel Platini, former Brazil great Zico and Liberia federation president Musa Bility are among the early contenders to succeed Blatter.

Reading between the lines is not difficult as Sepp Blatter’s news conference is interrupted by a shower of cash.

After the investigations were made public, Blatter decided to resign as FIFA president. As Swiss police belatedly began to whisk Brodkin away, he flung a fistful of fake dollars at Blatter, shouting that they were to go towards the first installment of North Korea’s bid for the 2026 World Cup.

Blatter hailed the moves toward reforms that government leaders around the world as well as football administrators have demanded.

“This has nothing to do with football”, Blatter said.

Former FIFA executive committee member Chuck Blazer has pleaded guilty to corruption charges including accepting bribes to vote for South Africa to host the 2010 World Cup.

Blatter called the reform proposals “important” but refused several demands by journalists to disclose his salary.

At Monday’s briefing, Blatter stated his intention to “lay down his mandate” in the wake of the FBI charging 14 people with racketeering in a global investigation into the soccer organization.

FIFA announced the election date shortly before a scheduled news conference by Blatter. He is a man who has always been transparent and one of the few, if not the only one, to admit who he voted for.

But a prankster who managed to get past FIFA security at the organisation’s Zurich headquarters overshadowed Blatter’s press conference by showering the embattled governing body’s chief with fake money.
