Michelle Dockery says goodbye to Downton Abbey in emotional behind-the-scenes

Staff at Downton will receive redundancy notices and the family must learn, for the first time, to look after themselves – from getting dressed to even making their own meals. She is an American-born character who eventually married Lord Robert Crawley, the Earl of Grantham.

The series, about the occupants of a stately English mansion, is coming to an end after six years.

In the final season, fans will see Lady Mary finally choose a suitor and the continuing romance of Charles and Elsie will be a very big plot. “I’ve lived with these people for seven years now”. With buzz about a movie in the future, or perhaps another series with the next generation of Crawleys, Neame is not willing to tip his hand one way or the other.

The show’s executive producer Gareth Neame has also been talking to The Guardian about the decision to voluntarily end the show after the sixth season.

As such, the final season will not necessarily shed light on all of the possibilities for the characters nor will it offer flash-forwards.

In March the show’s creator Lord Fellowes said: “The Downton journey has been awesome for everyone aboard”.

The cast has all expressed that they think it’s better to go out on top than wait until people lose interest.

The final eight-part season will air in September and finish on Christmas Day. This becomes more apparent now that actress Elizabeth McGovern has shot her final scenes and has shared her farewell photos via Twitter. It’s full of so many fond memories and it was very emotional. They also held a party for residents of Bampton, Oxfordshire, which stands in for the village of Downton. Participating in the race are Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) and Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen) who may be making an effort to win Lady Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) favor.

Jim Carter, who plays butler Charles Carson in the drama, revealed co-star Laura Carmichael “gets to do the last shot” of the series as Lady Edith Crawley. It was Highclere Castle.

She told the Mirror newspaper: “And as soon as they said “cut”, you realised it was just pretend”.
