Michelle Obama delivers emotional speech at DNC

Politicians across party lines, celebrities and activists praised Michelle Obama for her Democratic National Convention speech, with some saying the remarks “embodied everything that is great about America”.

Scandal star Kerry Washington did the same, tweeting: “WHEN THEY GO LOW, WE GO HIGH”. “Make no mistake about it, this November when we go to the polls that is what we are deciding”.

Mrs Clinton’s husband, former United States president Bill Clinton, watching from the audience, leapt to his feet and applauded, as did most of the delegates filling the convention arena.

November’s election isn’t Republican versus Democrat, Michelle said.

Now, because of Clinton, Obama said her daughters will “take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States”.

In the main hall, the second night of the convention was featuring former President Bill Clinton, who was taking the stage to deliver a personal validation for his wife. Clinton, she said, has “the guts and the grace to keep coming back and putting those cracks in that highest and hardest glass ceiling until she finally breaks through”.

“She is there, in part, to be a coda and also to be a bridge”, said Andra Gillespie, a political scientist at Emory University who studies political mobilization.

Garry Mauro, head of the Clinton delegation for Texas, said Mrs Obama’s speech was “stunningly good”. Four years from now, if she can set a solid policy agenda and still electrify crowds like tonight, I believe her victory is a foregone conclusion. “I love you, Michelle”, he tweeted. She will also discuss why she thinks Clinton has the “character, temperament and experience” to be president, and how Clinton’s career reflects ideals such as “opportunity, equality, inclusion”.

“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my daughters – two handsome, intelligent black young women – playing with their dogs on the White House lawn”, she said.

Michelle Obama did not utter the words “Donald Trump” even once and yet she rallied the Democrats like they have never been rallied in a long time.

Mrs Obama, a lawyer who has advocated for military families and working women during her seven-and-a-half years as First Lady, has earned a reputation for inspirational speeches.

“Somebody who knows this job and takes it seriously”.

She warned that the White House couldn’t be in the hands of someone with “a thin skin or a tendency to lash out” or someone who tells voters the country can be great again. There should be no speakers AFTER Michelle Obama.

Michelle said she wants a president with “a record of public service, someone whose life’s work shows our children that we don’t chase form and fortune for ourselves, we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed”. “Love recognizes that we need each other, that we as a nation are better together, that when we are divided we are weak, we decline, yet when we are united we are strong – invincible!” “This right now is the greatest country on earth”, the first lady said.

Breaking a historic barrier, Hillary Clinton triumphantly captured the Democratic nomination for president Tuesday night, the first woman ever to lead a major political party into the general election.

With passionate words in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, the first lady captured the attention of the crowd and viewers all over the world. “You need to be steady and measured and well informed”.

The First Lady focused on the responsibility for the next president, the legacy they will leave, and the historical significance of the first female party nomination.

“Don’t let anyone ever tell you that this country is not great”. “And I really hoped that she choosing me and rejecting my own advice to pursue her own career was a decision she’d never regret”.

At the commencement, Obama added that while the Founding Fathers probably couldn’t have envisioned such a scene, City College’s multinational, multilingual, multiracial graduating class represents the promise of America.
