Among the scheduled performers: Buddy Guy, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Audra McDonald, Keb’ Mo’, Smokey Robinson, Trombone Shorty, Esperanza Spalding, Brian Stokes Mitchell, James Taylor and Usher, as well as special readings and remarks from Carol Burnett.
“Way back in 1965, President Johnson created the National Endowments for the Arts and the Humanities”, she said.
“In America, we turn life into lyrics. Except me”, Mr Obama said amid applause.
“Failure is a part of that whole process”, Mrs. Obama said.
Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Obama plans to watch the debate, but admitted that he may not watch the entire event. “You just learn to pick yourself up”.
The official first family, better known as POTUS Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, are hosting an all-star music tribute to celebrate the many contributions Americans have made to the arts and literary culture. They were also treated to an impromptu performance by Spalding, Trombone Shorty and Keb’ Mo’. Students from three schools in the following communities will participate: Manassas, VA; Herndon, VA; and Landover, MD.
