First, a videotape was aired during the show showing Michelle Obama announcing her plans to increase educational opportunities for the 62 million girls around the world who are now not in school.
Obama, always polished, was in head-to-toe black: a simple blouse and slacks with her hair in a sleek side-part. “I am thrilled to be here tonight… and honored to follow a woman who I admire and adore”. They deserve the same chances to get an education as my daughters and your daughters”, she said and continued, “I see myself in these girls. I see my daughters in these girls.
In the video appearance, Obama asked supporters to post photos of themselves on Twitter and Instagram along with a message about what they learned in school using #62milliongirls. “And make no mistake about it; giving them that chance is at the core of our work to end global poverty”.
“We have millions and trillions of greenbacks but in which the some cash goes will be the military services, stuff that are hopeless to actually society”, she replied.
“We are helping adolescent girls worldwide go to school”, Obama also said.
The multihour event held on the Great Lawn in New York’s Central Park also featured Vice President Joe Biden, Hugh Jackman, Bono, Leonardo DiCaprio and Pearl Jam, who closed the event with a rocking performance.
