The talk: Michigan is favored and at home, but Michigan State has more pressure.

But, the guards admit, they can’t intercept every move.

On Thursday it was discovered that someone defaced the Magic Johnson statue outside of Michigan State’s Breslin Center as a yellow “M” was spray painted on Johnson’s statue.

Besides elbow grease and a lot of water, utility worker Tracy Harris was using a product called “Mark Off” to try to remove the paint.

Just another step in the tit-for-tat between the schools leading up to Saturday’s football game in Ann Arbor (3:30 p.m., ESPN).

The statue was created by Highland Park, Illinois resident Omri Amrany, who told the Lansing State Journal on Thursday it took him about eight months to create. After an incredible few seasons he went on to be picked in the first round of the 1979 draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He played for 13 great years in the National Basketball Association, in which he averaged 19 points per game, his final year was 1996.

Michigan State officials are attempting to scrape off the paint. Meanwhile, Spartan fans are well-known for sneaking onto the University of Michigan’s Diag and painting the sacred “M” green and white.
