Michigan Football Facebook page apparently compromised

Sometime over night, the Michigan football, basketball, and athletics Facebook page fell under the control of someone unaffiliated with the athletic department (is that you, F Society?).

These were posted intermittently throughout the morning until about 8:30, when Michigan was finally able to temporarily shut the pages down to resolve the issue. There were 23 posts on the football page that had headlines ranging on topics ranging from Kim Kardashian, to sex and “extreme selfies”.

Unfortunately, no, they aren’t officially becoming a Maxim ripoff; their social-media accounts were just hacked. Not long afterward, the pages had been restored.

Michigan is now reviewing their social media strategy. We continue to monitor our pages and will work with our partners to expedite all inquiries.

Several Facebook fans left comments on the page asking about the non-football related click bait. The verified page for the Michigan Men’s Basketball team has close to 439,000 fans.

Sunstrum said this was the first time something like this has happened under her direction.
