Michigan Governor Declares State Of Emergency In Flint Over Water Crisis
A state of emergency has been issued for Flint and Genesee county by the governor of MI because the water there is contaminated. In another, she railed against power, greed and incompetent politicians, declaring in a hashtag #FIRINGSQUADWORKSFORME.

Elevated blood lead levels have been detected in some of the city’s youngest residents after the city in 2014 switched to using the Flint River as its water source.
High levels of lead have plagued Flint’s municipal water supply for at least a year, prompting extensive emergency measures to keep residents safe.
A preliminary report by Snyder’s Flint Water Advisory Task Force said the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality was primarily responsible for the state’s failure to deal with the crisis sooner, and last week, Snyder accepted the resignation of DEQ Director Dan Wyant. More noteworthy the move qualifies the city for federal aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), who can now do a damage assessment.
Financially, Snyder’s declaration means mi state funds and recovery organizations will work with those in Flint to help out, according to Time, but exactly how the state will do so is unclear.
Jennifer Eisner, a public information officer for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed to The Washington Post that the state’s own testing produced similar findings to the Hurley study.
Lead poisoning can cause learning disabilities and at high levels can lead to seizures and death, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
It’s been three months since the state first acknowledged lead contamination in the city’s water supply.
