Jesse Wayne Gunderson, 26, of Wayne County, is accused of killing his grandfather, Danny Louis Dart, 58, by striking him in the head with an ax at around 5 p.m. Saturday in Dart’s backyard, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Prosecutors said Gunderson had been living in Dart’s home for several weeks after moving from California.

WXYZ-TV reports Dart was Gunderson’s step-grandfather.

29th District Court Judge Laura Mack entered a not-guilty plea in on Gunderson’s behalf and ordered him held in jail until his next court hearing – which is on October. 6.

Dart, a retired-disabled Ford worker, did not have any biological children, but we’re told considered Marian’s children and grandchildren to be the same to him. “Your best defense is to be truthful”, Porter said.

Dart’s siblings and other relatives wonder why Gunderson left a good job working at a hospital in Fresno and showed up, unannounced, on Dan and Marian’s doorsteps about a month ago.
