Michigan’s annual ArtPrize competition enters its 7th year

The new Grand Rapids tap house will be the second in a series of new biergarten and tap houses that the brewery plans to open in Michigan and across the country in the coming years.

ArtPrize runs through to October. 11 and artists will compete for $500,000 in prizes, including a $200,000 grand prize selected by public vote. After a second round of voting, the winners of public and juried awards will be announced October 9.

For those looking for a virtual event guide and voting platform, the ArtPrize app is ready to download. Free programs are being offered to school group.

Events billed as “ArtPrize Tonight” will bring more evening programming this year’s ArtPrize, including films, live performances and arts discussions.

The work was accepted on behalf of the city by City Hall’s ArtPrize curator, but was later rejected by the city’s Arts Advisory Committee.

Atwater Brewery is coming to the Rowe Hotel Building at 201 Michigan Street NW next year. ArtPrize is back in Grand Rapids starting Wednesday.

“We are an independently organized event, so just by nature of that, all of the venues and artists connect with each other outside of ArtPrize and so that’s just the way it worked”, she said.
