The Wildcats (12-1), voted the league’s “sleeper team” in the preseason, have won nine straight and are off to their best 13-game start since 1930-31. Eron Harris led the way for the Spartans in the loss with 21 points. Deyonta Davis is grabbing 5.5 rebounds and Lourawls Nairn Jr.is dishing 4.4 assists. Michigan State, Maryland and Purdue are the cream of the Big Ten, and Michigan and IN figure to be upper-shelf teams, although they’re not locks.

“Based on what I’ve seen on tape, Iowa certainly has potential” to win the league, Bonner said. Looking to avenge the conference title for the football team, Iowa will need to make sure to contain the three-point shooting of the Spartans which is a strong point for the offense of MSU. The Spartans shot a pedestrian 3 of 13 from three-point land and committed 16 turnovers on the night.
The Anteaters, anchored by 7-foot-6 center Mamadou Ndiaye, held the Jayhawks without a field goal for a six-minute stretch while grabbing an early 13-9 lead. The Iowa Hawkeyes are shooting 39.7 percent from beyond the arc and 73.5 percent from the free throw line. In Cleaves’ absence, other players stepped up and even though the team did take some losses, they were better prepared for the deep run in the tournament.
The Spartans are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
On Tuesday night, Big Ten’s conference play will open with a bang.
The Hawkeyes are as balanced of a team as you’re going to find in the Big Ten.
During non-conference play, Iowa did put together a solid performance and scored wins against teams like Florida State, Marquette, and Wichita State.

He didn’t have any time to plan for the unexpected absence of do-it-all star Denzel Valentine either, but Valentine’s teammates helped the top-ranked Spartans avert disaster in their first game without him.
