Mickelson talks trash to Spieth, McIlroy

The 45-year-old five-time major victor and 2005 PGA champion focused his efforts Tuesday on trash talking the top two players in the game: Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. I played well enough in a couple of them to have a chance to win or it could have been a win in past years.

Coming into the PGA Championship in very solid form – he finished outright second at the Quicken Loans National, and tied for 10th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational – Fowler said he is investing in his process, not pot luck, when it comes to securing an elusive major title.

“[It’s] just all building kind of a process into winning a major”.

“It’s attractive to play”, he said of Whistling Straits, as reported by Mark Lamport-Stokes of Reuters.

The American was victorious at both the Players Championship and the Scottish Open earlier in the season and he believes the time will come for him to break his major duck.

“Whatever gets thrown at me this week I am going to take it on the chin and keep pushing forward and hope that has me in the mix at the end of the week”.

How many golfers have won all four majors?

The US Open has long been Phil Mickelson’s white whale.

Since turning pro and making his way onto the PGA Tour more than two years ago, Jordan Spieth has suffered his share of hazing and ribbing at the hands of veteran Phil Mickelson. It’s a very good checkup and that’s what I enjoy about it. It’s fun.

“Really just getting myself in position to win”. But they got us. It makes things matter and count a little bit more, just to kind of get the juices going, getting ready for the week. Outside of actual tournament golf and being in contention, I feel like it’s some of the best preparation (for) when you are in contention or have shots that matter or on the line when you’re in a tournament, just because you don’t want to lose to your buddies….
