‘Micro’ Pink Moon rises Thursday night
Other names for April’s Full Moon are also associated with Springtime: Full Sprouting Grass Moon (spouting vegetation in Spring), Egg Moon (animal mating in Spring), and Full Fish Moon (when fish spawn in spring).

Other Native Americans knew the full moon of April as the fish moon, because of spawning runs of fish like shad swimming up their rivers at this time of year.
The pink moon event will begin with a moonrise in the Atlantic Ocean near the US east coast around 7:30 pm. In May, we’ve got the Flower Moon; in June, we can look forward to the Strawberry Moon; the Hunter’s Moon rises in October; and in November, it’s even called the Beaver Moon.
Is the April 2016 Full Moon supposed to be pink tonight? It will be full Friday at 11:24 p.m. MT. The Pink Moon would perhaps more accurately be named the “Tiny Moon”, as it’s the smallest full moon of the year. So the meteor shower will be dimmed by the light of the full moon.

The moon will indeed be mini-this marks the moment when the Earth and moon are farthest apart, making the moon appear smaller than usual-but it won’t actually take on a pink hue. The name does not come from the color of the moon – the moon will still appear white. The Moon then changed from pink to orange (and later yellow) as it rose higher in the sky.
