Micromax unveils Canvas Fire 4G smartphone

Mediatek introduced its collaboration with India’s second-largest cell phone maker Micromax to launch a 4G LTE smartphone – Canvas Fire 4G. “We believe there is a lot of pent up demand still in India for mobile internet”, he said, adding that MediaTek will have a full portfolio of SoCs to cater to the demand from India with the Helio X and Helio P range hitting the market in coming months.

“India is at the cusp of digital revolution and at Micromax Informatics we have been putting in concerted efforts to bring the best in class 4G LTE smartphones to take Internet usage to an unprecedented level”. The smartphone will be affordable, and it’s set to be the first of several new MediaTek-based handsets from the company including devices said to sport the Helio X10 chip.

“We have always endeavored to offer products based on certain needs of the consumer”. The move has come out as a result of rapidly increasing smartphone adoption and availability of 4G services across the country.

Micromax is readying about eight 4G enabled smartphones for launch by December this year, informs ET.

According to analysts, India will be the fastest growing 4G market in World and will overtake Japan as the third largest market in 2017.

India represents MediaTek’s second largest market globally and the company says it wants to tap into the country’s 4G potential even further.

MediaTek is hiring in India. By building technologies that help connect individuals to the world around them, MediaTek is enabling people to expand their horizons and more easily achieve their goals. Micromax is the only Indian company among the top 10 4G device players, as per CMR. The smartphone has frontal dual speakers and comes with a removable battery pack.

Taneja expects handset vendors to sell between 30 million and 50 million 4G smartphones within a year as carriers aggressively push the new service.
