Microsoft acquires Metanautix, an analytics startup that helps enterprises
Microsoft plans to incorporate the technology into its recently introduced Cortana Analytics Suite, a cloud-based bundle comprised of its popular virtual assistant and a selection data processing services from Azure that now require cataloging and integration to be carried out in separate interfaces.

The software firm is planning to have Metanautix into its total data platform proposition.
Microsoft now gets a ready built and proven solution for multi-cloud business analytics that will do more than just enhance its database team. Once it’s aggregated, businesses can use SQL to query the resulting data pipeline in order to glean insights from the information. The company calls this action the creation of a “data supply chain” and the technology is capable of bringing together lots of different data regardless of type, size or location. In the brief write-up from Microsoft, they detailed a the problem with data analytics and how they want Metanautix to help fix it.
Although financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Microsoft has agreed to acquire both Metanautix’ technology and talent.
The firm has raised at least $7 million in venture capital funding, according to CrunchBase. Implementing the same technology to messy big data means that enterprises can learn much more from diverse data sources in one scoop.
A good example of Metanautix’s work could be seen in Shutterfly.
The startup was founded three years ago by former Google and Facebook engineers with a vision to integrate the data supply chain by building a data compute engine that enables scalable SQL access to any data. “The solution can integrate data across traditional data warehouses like SQL Server, Oracle ORCL +0.00% and Teradata TDC +0.00%; open source NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Cassandra; as well as business systems likeSalesforce.com CRM -1.30% and wide array of other cloud and on-premises data stores”.
Vassilakis also weighed in with thoughts on the deal in a Friday blog post.
A Metanautix spokesperson said that they are now ready to take their product to the next level by joining forces with Microsoft.

One of the main challenges for the big data explosion has been the vast amounts of data and network bandwidth consumed BEFORE any real analysis takes place. You’ll find instructions and a submission form here: InformationWeek’s Elite 100 2016.
