Microsoft today announced the release of its Outlook app for Apple Watch.

The free software is available in the iTunes Store; updating Outlook to version 1.3.5 on an iPhone adds the Apple Watch support.

Through Outlook on Apple Watch users can look at their email, go through notifications of incoming emails and also send limited replies. If all you want to know is what’s next on your calendar, it eliminates the need to bounce between separate Watch apps. “These types of third-party apps can alter the way the system operates, creating future problems and changing important settings and features”.

There’s also a glance for Outlook on the Apple Watch, a screen that offers an overview of the inbox, such as how many unread mails there are, and a list of event on the calendar for the day. All that you can do in this context is use the quick reply feature or dictation.

Outlook’s notifications also show you more of the email’s text than those from Apple’s client. It might have been silly to guess that we’d see Apple apps on Android under Steve Jobs’ rule, but this new Apple is a breath of fresh air and we hope they continue warming up to the idea of smartphone harmony over the course of the next few years. Likewise, there are some custom notifications to give a customise email experience on Apple Watch. Outlook is based on Acompli, which Microsoft acquired in 2014, and has been recognized as one of our Apps of the Week. Moreover, it has just launched a dedicated page to offer all its productivity apps for wearables like Apple Watch and Google’s Android Wear devices.
