A new update was posted on the Fable Legends forum, where they made it official that Fable Legends has now been shut down. “All stories have to end eventually, ‘ reads the note, “but the memories of Heroic triumphs and Villainous plots will last forever”.

The beta for Lionhead’s Fable Legends has now closed and the studio itself will follow in due course. It pains us personally since we were really looking forward to it. We also had a chance to speak to Lionhead Studio Director Stuart Whyte in detail about Fable Legends, and based on our exclusive interview, we were even more excited to check it out. This is what is known about Fable Legends coming to an end, with the possibility of refunds being made available.

The update was very definite on the fate of Fable Legends, but no light was initially shed on last week’s rumours about the game being saved. Microsoft had high hopes that Fable Legends would be around for 5 to 10 years, with regular content keeping the game fresh. After that, the company brought the Fable franchise to life, putting in an additional two sequels and a couple of spin-off adventures.

A recent report from earlier this week cited inside sources that Microsoft is now speaking with the remaining employees at Lionhead Studios about their thoughts and interest in continuing work on Fable Legends.
