The updated music service on the rival mobile platforms comes with same Xbox Music branding and not the recently unveiled Groove branding of Xbox Music on Windows 10.

But one new feature mentioned for Groove has already become available in Xbox Music: the ability to stream songs from your OneDrive without paying a subscription.

Windows 10 will be integrated into Xbox One, Microsoft have confirmed, as part of a wider initiative of sharing applications across devices. This has been apple’s move at directly competing with other music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple made their step forward towards streaming services. They can continue playing music in snapped mode or in the background on the home screen.

Users still aren’t overly pleased with Xbox Music – it has a 3.6 star rating on the Play Store, mostly due to crashing and compatibility issues. There will be no new user-facing features in the current update. Users would be able to upload mp3, m4a, or wma music files on their OneDrive account and stream it from the Xbox Music app on their devices. Remaking games on PS4 makes the games even better – with The Last Of Us, you can play at 60 frames per second, and the same goes for Dark Souls 2. But you can’t access the Xbox Music Radio station, which creates custom stations based on your favorite artists.

LeBlanc said the new Groove service will have access to 40 million songs and offer “an improved experience for listening to and managing your music”.

You can now play any music stored on your Microsoft OneDrive online music folder, just as you can on your Xbox console. “It’s hard to give you more colour on that, it’s just very good news for the industry”. You can download playlists, songs and albums for offline use on many devices. It must have taken lots of effort for them to realize the backwards compatibility, because the Xbox 360 and Xbox One use very different kinds of architecture.
