Windows 8, released in 2012, annoyed users by making the PC into a tablet, eliminating familiar features like the Start Menu in favor of a touchscreen system based on taps and swipes that only a small percentage of PCs could take advantage of or accommodate at all. The latest OS will be offered as a free upgrade for devices running Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, and Windows 7. Everyone has Windows 10 on their machine, so each person seeds a little bit of the files to those who need it, distributing the load across multiple computers and helping everyone download updates quickly.

Security: With Windows 10, Microsoft makes some real advances in security, including native fingerprint, face and iris recognition for two-factor authentication via Microsoft Hello (with appropriate biometric hardware support) as well as a reportedly more secure Edge browser.
