One person can be on a MacBook while the other is on a Windows PC, and a third person edits the document on an iPad. It has been over five years since that audience has seen more than security updates for that collection of software. In case you hadn’t noticed, up until the 2016 update Office for Mac has looked quite out-dated and clunky compared to its gorgeous Windows counterpart. Since there was such a long gap between the original release of Office 2011 and the release of OneNote for Mac, OneNote has been offered as a separate application up until this point.

In general though, the updated Office suite provides a number of new features, with a huge focus on co-authoring and, more importantly, a unified experience across multiple platforms. This release also includes native support for Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage service.
Excel for Mac-The new Excel for Mac helps you visualize your information by recommending charts best suited for your data with chart previews. For presentations, the Mac gets advanced transitions and other animations previously restricted to Windows.
Office 365 Personal will sell at $6.99 for home users and Office 365 Home will sell at $9.99 per month.
The new Office 2016 for Mac is available to download now, but it isn’t free. A standalone version will not become available until September, notes Microsoft, and pricing for that option is not yet available. These updates include new features like Proposed New Time in Outlook, Mail Merge in Word and External Data Connections support in Excel.

The Windows desktop version is still in preview, slated to launch this fall, said Microsoft. Each program is also compatible with Mac-centric features like the Full Screen view and Multi-Touch trackpad gestures.
Mobile apps are complementary rather than substitutes for the PC versions. This makes you get quick access to files or documents you have recently used and you can pick up where you left. They aren’t meant for writing novels, at least without a physical keyboard accessory. You can work on the same document simultaneously with your teammates and use threaded comments to have a conversation right next to the corresponding text. I’ve turned to the tablet on trains and planes, even when a laptop is in my backpack.
In Word for Mac, there’s a new Design tab that makes it easy to add high-quality layouts, colours, and fonts to a document.
