Microsoft makes Office 2016 available worldwide

Microsoft said that subscribers to Office 365 will get always-up-to-date, fully installed apps for use across their devices, together with consumer and commercial services such as OneDrive online storage, Skype for Business, Delve, Yammer and enterprise-grade security features.

It’s not clear how many new Office 365 users Microsoft will manage to snag with the promotion, but it could help boost the number of users who pay for a subscription, and therefore keep feeding Microsoft’s annual revenue, rather than forking over a lump sum when they feel like upgrading.

In keeping with its “cloud first, mobile first” approach, Microsoft has also made available versions of the Office apps for mobile devices, such as iPhones, iPads, and Android and Windows phones and tablets.

“One of the most powerful tools is Sway, which creates an interesting blend across Office and likely is an early look at the future of applications like this”, Enderle said.

According to CNeT, the 2016 Microsoft Office is priced at $400.

Microsoft also gave details of new Office 365 solutions for enhanced collaboration that will be available soon.

For example, when you share a document in Office 2016, you will open an Outlook email that appears to have a Word file attached. “Office 2016 is also available as a one-time purchase for both PCs and Macs”. They can do all of that, just not with the free version of Microsoft Office. In the run up to the launch of the new suite, the tech world is busy looking at the new functions and features which would be included in the new upgraded platform. Windows Hello logs you into Windows and Office 365 in one simple step.

The new Office Home & Student 2016 edition includes updated version of Word, PowerPoint, OneNote.

The difference pointed by Microsoft means that Mac users will receive shorter support span compared to its Windows counterpart. Microsoft didn’t explain how iPad Pro users will be prevented from using the apps, but cheapest option for them will be the Office 365 Personal subscription, which is priced at either $6.99 per month or $69.99 a year.

Don’t want to use Office on multiple devices but do on an iPad Pro?

Outlook now with a new Office 365 Groups feature allows the users to see shared inboxes, calendars and notebooks within the app and the app has received a big performance bump for “live search” which is much faster.
