Microsoft Office 2016 released: updates for Word, PowerPoint, Excel and

The new services are also designed to run across mobile and tablet devices better than ever, using Microsoft’s Continuum feature to ensure that you never lose your progress or important files whilst on the go. For Office 2016, Microsoft is incorporating numerous collaboration features the company has been honing in its Web-based Office apps into the client applications. Some of the new connected features are coming straight from the Office web apps, but many have been created just for Office 2016.

It also boasts of built-in data loss prevention across Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, to reduce the risk of leaking sensitive data with tools for IT administrators to manage content authoring and document sharing policies. Starting today, Office 365 subscribers can download all the included apps.

Microsoft’s Office 2016 brings with it numerous improvements and a commitment to bringing new features to subscribers faster than ever before. As part of this transition, Microsoft is offering Office 2016 as a service through Office 365. Beyond the traditional productivity suite, customers using Windows 10 can tap into Sway to create presentations while Office Mobile apps on the platform work to keep road warriors and remote workers productive, working with Continuum to let users operate smartphones like PCs.

The look and feel of the programs will be familiar to anyone who has used the 2013 edition of Microsoft’s productivity software, said Jared Spataro, a general manager of marketing with the Office team. The new version of the popular Office software aims to make it easier to work together online.

For standalone version, Microsoft Office 2016 Home & Student edition will cost $150 instead of $140 for the previous version.

In terms of the future, OneDrive for Business updates are set to land later this month including a new sync client for Windows and Mac. Outlook will also contain an advanced search function, a “clutter” folder to group important emails and a functionality to send Cloud apps without downloading them. GigJam is an unprecedented new way for teams to accomplish tasks and transform business processes by breaking down the barriers between devices, apps and people.
