Microsoft Office in a world of multiple devices

Prior to this, Office 365 for the Mac was released as a Preview for Mac users, where according to Microsoft it was met with rather high approval from its users. The company eventually realized something had to be done about it, and thought to update its Office apps including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Word.

Microsoft has finally launched the latest version of Office 2016 for Mac users. “It works the way you expect, with the familiar ribbon interface and powerful task panes”, Microsoft explained. Microsoft plans to introduce new updates to the software at least once per quarter going forward.

In general though, the updated Office suite provides a number of new features, with a huge focus on co-authoring and, more importantly, a unified experience across multiple platforms.

The new Office 2016 for Mac is available to download now in 139 countries and 16 different languages. Furthermore, new styles, and themes added by Microsoft will motivate you to work on these apps. It will be available from Microsoft’s Volume Licensing Service Center. Switching between devices for convenience or collaboration is easy with its cloud integration.

Depending on the need, users can buy subscription for Office 365.

Word got a new “design” tab to help with document layouts. This makes you get quick access to files or documents you have recently used and you can pick up where you left. Microsoft says the feature also lets Excel users discover patterns in their data. The Mac gets numerous keyboard shortcuts I am applied to on Windows.

PowerPoint for Mac includes the Presenter View, which allows you to play with slides, view notes, while the audience only sees what they are meant to see. All the applications look much more like their Windows cousins than previous releases, but their designs also respect the standard Mac menu controls and features such as full-screen mode.

Office 2016 for Mac is available to anyone with a valid Office 365 subscription, including Office 365 Home, Office 365 Personal, or Office 365 ProPlus. Those who want a standalone version of it will have to wait till September, however.

Microsoft ran a public preview for Office for Mac starting in March this year, and collected over 100,000 pieces of feedback from beta testers.
