Microsoft OneNote updated to allow migration from Evernote

Microsoft is attempting to attract customers from Evernote thanks to a new feature that permits people to move their notices from the app’s note-taking support. It is not necessarily that users of this tool have to install Evernote for Windows though it helps with a faster migration.

After touting OneNote’s high ratings from Mac, Android, Windows, and iOS users, Microsoft adds that they “hear from Evernote fans who acknowledge OneNote’s appeal but are hesitant to make the switch due to the fact that all their ideas and information reside in Evernote”.

The whole process took a little less than 15 minutes for my roughly 1,200 Evernote notes.

You can download the OneNote Importer Tool right here. And there’s a lot of room for improvement. It’s has only been released for Windows initially but Microsoft will release it on Mac in the very near future.

Now that it’s easier, are you planning on making the switch from Evernote to OneNote? OneNote appears like a physical notebook with tabbed sections, while Evernote is vastly different. You can also opt to simply import the notes themselves and not the notebooks.

Trying to combine the two represents an advantage of their variations.

In the blogpost, senior product manager for the OneNote team, Vijay Sharma, acknowledged that OneNote and Evernote are fairly similar.

Some OneNote users are saying that the product’s structure is more intuitive because it has a notebook-tab-page design, which is something that enables them to use it easily.

But the notebook-tab-page design is also a limitation. “And especially new users have a hard time grasping it on occasion”.

With that being said, you’ll just have to wait for Microsoft to improve OneNote if you need to transfer large media files.

“I do think that in the long term, as we think about where OneNote goes, not prescribing a particular organizational structure is something that we’re looking at”, he said.

Currently, the latest update is only available for Windows users.

These sorts of importing capabilities are nothing new.

Another big difference among the apps is that in Evernote there is the option of putting notes under multiple tags, while OneNote only allows them to live under one tab, the notebook, according to Computerworld. But this shows how keenly Microsoft is interested in expanding OneNote’s reach.
