Microsoft Opens HoloLens Developer Experience In NYC Store
Starting today, the company’s NY flagship store will play host to what it’s calling the HoloLens Experience Showcase, a semi-permanent setup where developers can try a handful of mixed reality toys and tools. “Microsoft HoloLens is the first fully untethered, holographic computer”, explained Microsoft on the official HoloLens webpage, “enabling high-definition holograms to integrate with your world”.

But if you want to see what a HoloLens looks like for yourself (without trying it on), Microsoft has one on display in a glass case on the first floor of its Fifth Avenue store.
According to Microsoft, software developers observe a hands-on demonstration of the device, and they will have an opportunity to experience HoloLens first hand.
Dying to try Microsoft’s HoloLens for yourself? The studio in NY was created to provide HoloLens demos over the long-terms. Another shows the technology’s potential in presentations and sales, using a luxury watch as an example of how holograms can give potential customers more insights into features. We can’t see Microsoft actually pushing people away just because they aren’t expert developers – it probably just wants an orderly appointment system in place, instead of allowing any Joe to walk in off the street.
The success of HoloLens, an augmented reality device, is dependent upon engagement from developers and apparently the response to the company’s call for the developer edition of HoloLens has been strong.
But the only way to get any real traction for a new piece of hardware is to get developers building awesome applications for the platform.

Microsoft said HoloLens will eventually come to consumers, though it hasn’t yet announced a date for its release.
