Microsoft ramps up Windows 10 push
Microsoft says it “understands” people may want to stick with their existing Windows version but wrote in a blog post yesterday “we would encourage everyone to upgrade because Windows 10 is the best Windows ever – familiar, safer, faster, and full of innovations”.

As of today, Windows users will still need to use the Windows 10 Reservation icon in their taskbar to get a copy, but the upgrade process will now start immediately.
This mirrors an accidental change that Microsoft did earlier this month. Soon, Microsoft says that Windows 10 upgrade will surface in Windows Update as an “Optional Update” for users with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Depending on the user’sWindows Update setting, the upgrade process will begin automatically, but the final switch between the new and old OS will only be flipped by the user, explains the blog post titled “Making It Easier to Upgrade to Windows 10”.
Microsoft also announced an initiative to crack down on pirated versions of Windows.
Microsoft is moving to simplify – and speed up – the adoption of Windows 10.
Upon completing the download, Microsoft’s Terry Myerson tells The Verge, “A user will be presented with a choice to install Windows 10”.
As always, if you decide you want to go back to how things were, you have 31 days to do so before Windows 10 clears its cache of your previous install to free up space. Windows 8.1 users aren’t in danger there because that OS won’t automatically download updates over a metered connection.
The process of initiating the upgrade to Windows 10 has also been streamlined. Now however it seems like Microsoft will spare no one and the update will become part of regular Windows Update starting next year, whether user signed up to upgrade their OS or not.
If it works, Microsoft will keep this experiment going in more markets. After that, folks that have received Windows 10 as a recommended update may very well find themselves having to cough up a hundred bucks or so in order to “Get Genuine”.

Windows 10 has already been installed on 75 million computers, accounting for 4.9 percent of desktop internet users, according to StatCounter. Windows Feedback gives all engineers in Windows access to the complete set of raw feedback that users provide in the tool.
