Microsoft officially launched the highly anticipated Windows 10 last night, making for many happy Windows users. After the narrator ends his speech, it says how Windows 10 has all these features and more that makes it future ready.

The update is rolling out across the globe in waves – although there is a way to force the update should you not be eligible at the moment.

To add to the joys, the Redmond giant has decided to add twist to this tale – the new OS has been destined to make a debut in two different forms – the Windows 10 Home version and the Windows 10 Pro version. For example, notifications and quick settings are in the new Action Center, a one-stop place to see who’s emailed you, find app updates, adjust the brightness of your display, and all the other tasks you need.

The result: All of the files from a Windows 10 PC will also be accessible via smartphone and anything taken on the smartphone can also be located from a Windows 10 equipped computer. The free upgrade is also available for those using non-genuine copies of the aforementioned operating systems. The new browser, Edge, is sleek, fast and includes integration with Cortana, Microsoft’s uber-helpful voice-controlled assistant. Since Windows 10 looks familiar to the previous versions of Windows, you will recognize the desktop and taskbar, but the icons, colors, backgrounds and lock screens appear modern and fresh.

The vast majority of Windows revenue comes from hardware makers installing it on new PCs and businesses paying for multi-year licenses. (It was fine on tablets, but that’s not how most people use Windows machines.). Microsoft estimates there are 1.5 billion people who now use a few kind of Windows.

Question: Why does this matter to consumers?

Microsoft, which unveiled Windows 10 in September, skipped Windows 9 altogether, to put some distance between the new system and Windows 8, which confused many users by ditching the start button menu and introducing a new layout. (Apple and Google tout similar features in their software.).
