After unveiling the OneNote Importer tool for Windows in March, Microsoft has now announced that it is also releasing the same tool for OS X users in an attempt to make the transition smooth and hassle-free.

Back in March, Microsoft released OneNote Importer tool for Windows allowing users to export Evernote data to OneNote. At the time, the company promised that a Mac version would follow “in the coming months” – and now it’s here. Now Microsoft has responded with a new import tool that lets OneNote users pull in content from Evernote. Microsoft declined to share how many users it took to import those 71 million pages, suggesting the company doesn’t want the number being scrutinized. While some folks were willing to pay for a tier that met their needs, other people made a decision to switch to other solutions, such as Microsoft’s free (and wonderful) OneNote.

While Mac users aren’t exactly known for saving money, a recent price hike at Evernote has some users scrambling for a more affordable alternative.

Evernote is a very popular organization and note-taking solution.

The importer tool requires a Mac with OS X 10.11+ (El Capitan). They highlight that Evernote premium costs $7.99 per month.

Click Import. As soon as the process is complete, you can view your notes in OneNote for Mac (download it here if you don’t already have it). The strategy used by Microsoft is brilliant which emphasises its services at the same price point while Evernote struggles with internal restructuring and killing off apps as reported by TechCrunch.

One of the major differences between OneNote and Evernote is that OneNote is grounded in the physical concept of a notebook.

As Microsoft OneNote essentially does all the same things, runs on all the same devices, and is absolutely free, more and more Evernote users might consider switching.
